過去幾年，宏都拉斯有意與我斷交的消息始終沒有間斷。媒體報導，為了加強與大陸的關係，未來宏國將不派大使來台，改由代辦層級的代表駐台，不過對這項消息，外交部目前仍無法證實。
消息指出，台灣的中美邦交國宏都拉斯，有意與對岸建立更密切的夥伴關係，目前的大使傅丁已接道國內指示，將於近日返國，而接替他的，將會是一名駐台代表，這樣的做法，等同雙邊維持了一個「有名無實」的外交關係。
此外，報導引述一名知情駐台使節的說法，認為大陸雖然基於目前兩岸關係的良好勢頭，有著不與台灣邦交國建交的默契，但這樣的做法很可能引發後續效應，若我國其他友邦相繼仿效，台灣必需有所因應。
宏都拉斯是中美洲第二大國，早在民國70年就與中華民國建交。但這幾年，儘管馬政府展開所謂「外交休兵」政策，但台宏斷交的消息始終沒有間斷，其中最主要原因，還是宏國有意與對岸拓展經貿關係。
就在不久前，宏都拉斯外長阿奎洛到對岸進行訪問，除了透露會在當地設立一個商務辦事處，還一度指出，對和中國大陸建交持「開放態度」。
不過對這樣消息，外交部長林永樂僅表示一切正常，並強調外交部所獲得訊息，目前宏都拉斯是要與中國大陸發展經貿關係，這點台灣並不反對。
