福建省廈門市7日下午6時左右，發生一起BRT（快速公交系統，Bus Rapid Transit）火燒車意外。當時車內約有100位乘客，共造成48人死亡、33人受傷的悲劇。根據當地媒體報導指稱，起火原因應是輪胎起火，引發油箱燃燒而爆炸。但詳細的事故原因，當地警方仍在調查當中。
這起火燒車意外，發生在7日傍晚6時22分，車號是閩-Y7396的公車。一輛行駛在BRT高架上的公共汽車，在行經蔡塘站附近時，突然冒出火勢，沒幾分鐘整輛公車就被大火吞噬，整個濃煙直竄天際。
意外發生時間正好是下班的尖峰時刻，車內的乘客大多是上班族和下課的學生，由於當天適逢大陸大學聯考的首日，車內有不少考生。目前得知已有48人死亡、33人受傷，傷者都已送到醫院救治。而整輛公車也因為火勢太大，燒到只剩下骨架而已。
這起火燒公交車的意外事件，有目擊者指出公車後輪疑似爆胎，導致油箱起火；但由於該輛車使用的是柴油，較不容易起火，但這次卻突然冒出極大的火勢，懷疑有可能是有人攜帶違禁品上車。起火原因目前當地警方仍在調查當中，這起意外引發大陸高層，包括總書記習近平、總理李克強等人的高度重視，並在第一時間指示全力善後。
